ITLS Student to Receive CEHS Award

ITLS student and Crafts Technologies TA, Janell Amely, was just voted the Undergraduate Teaching Fellow of the year! We are so proud of Janell! Heartiest congratulations!!

Janell will be officially recognized at the 2015 Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services Awards CEHS Awards Ceremony. The ceremony will be held on Tuesday, April 14th, 2015, 3:30 - 5:00pm at the Edith Bowen Laboratory School Auditorium.

Please plan on attending the ceremony so we can recognize and support Janell!

Amely's work at senior Bachelor of Fine Arts show

Our very own, Janell Amely, Craft Technologies TA and a future ITLS Masters student is currently having her senior Bachelor of Fine Arts show with USU Caine College of the Arts.
The gallery 102 at the Chase Fine Arts Center, where Janell's work will be exhibited, is open 10 to 5 pm Tuesday through Friday, and the reception is this coming Thursday, February 19th,starting at 5. There will be cupcakes, coffee, and cocoa. Janell's pieces all have electronics and programmed interactivity that she started learning in Craft Technologies a few years back. If you are interested in Crafts Technologies, art, or just wish to support a fellow student, join us tomorrow!

Dr. Andy Walker and former doctoral student Dr. Heather Leary co-edit new book with Dr. Hmelo-Silver and Dr. Ertmer.

The book, Essential Readings in Problem-Based Learning: Exploring and Extending the Legacy of Howard S. Barrows, is now available for purchase through Perdue University Press.  

"The book is divided into four sections, each containing contributions by leaders in the field. Chapters in the first section focus on the structure of PBL and the critical elements of the approach. Articulating the underlying problems to be addressed, the role of facilitators, and the process to be followed in achieving a successful PBL intervention are all discussed. The second section explores how PBL has been adapted to function in areas outside medicine, from climate science to teacher education, while the third section explores how the methodology has been combined with other approaches to teaching and learning, such as learning by design and project-based learning. The fourth section assesses the impact of PBL techniques on improving both research and teaching. An epilogue speculates about the future of PBL, synthesizing contributions from the previous chapters and suggesting key themes for further exploration."
