Guest Lecture Video by Dr. Fields

Dr. Fields contributed to a guest lecture video, called "Learning as Cheating the Game" for Constance Steinkuehler and Kurt Squire's recent Course on MOOC on Games and Learning. The course has approximately 10,000 participants. 

It's a 5 minute video of Dr. Fields, and Jim Bowers, the co-founder of, talking about learning by cheating in games, virtual worlds, and even (provocatively) classes.

ITLS Faculty Attended Governor's Awards Dinner

Drs Sarah Brasiel, Taylor Martin and Mimi Recker recently attended the awards ceremony for the Governor’s Medals for Science and Technology at the Leonardo Museum in Salt Lake City on Wednesday, January 15, 2014.

Dr. Fields Contributing to digiPlaySpace Exhibition in Toronto

Creative Play Online is the name of the workshop Dr. Deborah Fields and Dr. Sara Grimes designed for a children's digiPlaySpace Exhibition in Toronto. This workshop is a partnership with the University of Toronto and Utah State University's research project Kids Do-It-Yourself Media, and is focusing on teaching children how to create their own worlds, make their own games and remix the web with creative programs.

The whole TIFF Kids digiPlaySpace exhibition will be held between March 8th and April 21st in Toronto. "At TIFF Kids digiPlaySpace, kids can engage with emerging creative media technologies and share innovative artistic experiences," says their website.

ITLS Student Led his Students to the Finals!

ITLS student and Ellis Elementary school teacher, Greg Cox, led his students to the finals of the national Scotties Tissues video contest. They now need your help to win!!!!

If they do win, they might get awarded "enough money to plant new trees at their school" (HJNews, Jan 14, 2014).
